Ok I'm a little late posting my blog about my Curls of Joy Week 8 Check In but here it is!!
Since week 8 has started I have currently been bunning my hair as you will see in the video. Every two or three days I would co wash, add my leave in conditioner which consist of either hello hydration by herbal essence or cantu shea butter, then jojoba oil, then maybe if I feel like it my shea moisture curl enhancer then stick it back in a bun wet, and go! I usually flat twist the front too. Since its burning hot down here in florida it is the perfect do. Keeps my head nice and cool as it dries in the sun if I'm out and about. I may do a video showing that routine soon on my youtube channel. I will be wearing my hair like this for a few weeks with an occassional wash and go or twist out if I feel like it but this protective hairstyle will be very beneficial to my hair and I continue to encourage and growth and keep my length!

Ever wonder why your hair was dry and uncooperative? Well I did. I moved to Florida in 2010 and couldn't figure out why my hair became dry and had a lot of breakage and shedding. Ladies, I am telling you, start with checking the quality of your WATER! It took me a year and half to figure out that that was exactly what damaged my hair and a year and a half is a looooong time to damage hair.
The straw that broke not the camels back but MINE came in December 2011 when I styled my hair in some nice curls and the next day it came out to be the driest ugliest curly fro ever. I looked at my sad hair condition in the mirror and the frustration on my face and told myself it is a MUST for me to find out what is going on with my hair.
Florida must know it has some bad water because one day while watching TV I saw a commercial for a water filtering system (click the link to view website) that helps clean up and soften the water and the lady in the commercial kept repeating she loved how the water makes her hair feel. So I got to thinking & researching. The water system was way out of my budget so I started looking for a shower filter that does the same thing but for just my shower. instead of the entire house. I found one called Johnathan's Beauty Water, it's a shower filter that showed immediate changes in my first wash of less dryness in my hair, so it was working and still is! If you would like a review for this shower filter please let me know, I'll be glad to do one. It's beneficial for the skin as well.
However I am only showering with this filter now because I have found something else better that works for MY hair which is the Kangen's Beauty Water. I found that with the Johnathan's filtering system it still didn't pull out all the elements would dry out my hair but it pulled out enough for me to notice a change for the better in my hair. My mother in law however has the Kangen's Beauty Water filtering system and after giving that a try I noticed my hair NEVER had the dryness ever again literally after my FIRST wash. If it were dry it was because I didn't moisturize and seal which is my fault not the filtering systems.
So I must have some pretty bad water because I needed the stronger filtering system, if you think your water isn't so bad you can definitely go for a cheaper filtering system. So my routine now consists of going over my mother in laws home and filling about three gallon jugs of this Kangens water up and using that for the washing and refreshing my hair every week. I must say the results are wonderful. So the moral of this story/blog is to say: CHECK YOUR WATER! It can be the main problem as to why your hair may be dry and unmanageable.
Another thing I learned that greatly helped me is our hair reacts to the PH level in water and in hair products. Hair reacts best when the PH level is between 4.0 - 7.0. Please watch this video on the Kimmaytube Channel, this woman has helped me so much with my hair, she's full of knowledge! Please browse her channel, click here for another informative video from her on the PH levels for our hair.
Hopefully I was of some help & remember CHECK YOUR WATER! Encouraging comments & suggestions are welcome!
